Benefits of Merino

Softer than most cashmere, but with the ability to be machine washed, ultrafine Merino is an exceptional fibre. It is also rare – just 0.5% of the wool produced in Australia is classed as ultrafine.

Below, learn about some of the special properties of the Gostwyck Ultrafine Merino we use exclusively for henry and grace garments.stand-7.jpg

Luxuriously soft - a gentle embrace

The incredible fineness of ultrafine Merino makes it softer than the average cashmere and gentle against sensitive skin, such as that of your baby’s. Our wool has been scientifically tested, and is guaranteed to be completely itch-free.

Machine washable - an easy way

A natural protective layer on Merino wool fibres makes garments easier to clean. Wool is also naturally stain resistant, so you don't need to wash it as often. All henry and grace products are machine washable at 30 degrees celsius, and will dry quickly on the line.

Breathable - a waft of fresh air

Merino wool garments are highly breathable. Merino fibres control moisture vapour next to skin, absorbing and moving moist air away from your body and into the air, meaning the wearer is more comfortable.

Repeat wear - able to be worn multiple times without washing

Merino wool is naturally odour resistant, so Merino garments remain fresher for longer. Merino wool even absorbs the odours from sweat, which are then released during washing.

Shape retention - a faithful fibre

Fibres from Merinos with genes originating from Saxony (as are ours) are naturally highly crimped. This allows garments to stretch when your child moves and then recover to its natural shape, keeping its as-new look and feel for longer.

Insulating - a shield against the elements

Merino wool is an active fibre with a natural crimp that creates a lot of very small insulating air pockets. That’s how it helps keep you and your baby warm in winter and cool in summer.

Naturally safer - an innate protector

Merino fibre resists dirt and dust, creating a healthier atmosphere for you and your child. Merino is also naturally fire-resistant so it won't melt or stick to your skin should the worst happen. And Merino wool is much better at protecting you from UV radiations than synthetics or cotton, keeping you and your family safe on sunny days.

Resilient - a dependable strength

While soft and luxurious to touch, ultrafine Merino wool is long lasting and resilient, so you know your wool product will stand the test of time.

Natural - an eco-friendly choice

At ‘Gostwyck’, ultrafine Merino is produced from the farm’s contented sheep, which graze naturally over the farm’s beautiful landscapes. Merino wool is also an entirely renewable fibre: each year, our sheep produce a new fleece, and each year that renewable resource is gently shorn from them to produce our clothing. Unlike synthetic fibres, which are extremely slow to degrade and are increasingly polluting our waterways and soils, Merino wool fibres naturally decompose back into the earth in a matter of months.
